Unit 3 (Structures): Classroom Activities

Hello! This week we will be finishing the Workshop Activities and the theory of the unit. We will have left one session and a half to work on the Workbook Activities and another session in the Computer Room to complete the IT Activities. I believe you will sit the exam over the second week of February. Classroom Activities are already published in our Virtual Classroom and here to practice them. See you all in class

Unit 3 (Structures): Workshop activities

High everybody and happy new year. As you all know, next week we will be spending the first session (out of two) in the workshop. You will work in pairs to construct a structure (lightweight, stable and resistant) using plastic straws. The material you have to bring to the workshop includes
  • a pack of plastic straws (perhaps you will need 30)
  • sticky tape (sellotape)
  • a paper clip
  • a pair of scissors and a ruler
  • a plastic bag to keep the structure (between sessions)
If you have time to spare, you ought to strengthen the structure by triangulation (in the second session). For this, you will need a cardboard (from a shoebox, for instance), glue and drawing tools (a pencil, a ruler and a compass). The animation below (and here) shows the final structure and the instructions to follow).
